I had completely forgotten how warm and squishy you feel when you meet someone new...

Met a guy at a party Saturday night. Cute, tall (I love tall....), fun to talk to, seemed like a good guy. But I've pretty much forgotten everything about flirting/dating/whatever so meh. Figured that was the end of it. I get home, crawl in bed and get a text from a mutual friend: "C. just texted me and said he was digging you... I think he has a crush!"

*insert warm squishies*

Totally made my night.

Anywhoo, we're Facebook friends now, so we'll see what may or may not happen. And he's been on my brain all day.

In other news, I fucking hate working 3rd shift. I've been working it full time for all of March because our regular 3rd shift tech rolled her car and broke her C5 vertebra. She's lucky she's not dead or paralyzed, but she's understandably off work for awhile. The money's nice, but the Zombie!Jen look really isn't good on me.

Seriously....

Oh look, an update....
True Blood - Eric
wenchamok
Three months after my last one, but whatever. It's been a hellabusy few months.

In no particular order...

1. I'm trying to kill myself between now and the end of the year. Starting January 1, anyone who takes a national exam radiology exam (x-ray), including post-primary certifications (CT, MRI, mammography, etc.), will be subject to some form of re-examination or other way of demonstrating that they still know what the hell they are doing. Thus, me and many other folks are trying to knock out exams before December 31. I've applied to take my CT exam (they're fucking around with my paperwork -- damn it, just approve my clinical experience so I can take the damn test!). I'm also currently cramming mammography clinicals into 3 weeks, so I can take *THAT* test by the end of the year as well. In addition to taking 8 hours of college classes as well. And did I mention that my clinicals are 2 1/2 hours away from where I live, because no one in Wichita would either take me or return my friggin' phone call about it (that pissed me off the most -- how difficult is it to call me?!?!)? At least it's 10 minutes from my sister's place, so I'm staying with her for the duration. Except for the weekends, when I'm driving back to Wichita to work.

2. As pretty as Alex O'Loughlin is in "Hawaii 5-0," I really kinda dig Danno.

3. "The Walking Dead" is made of awesome. Zombies FTW!

4. I spent a week in New York last month, visiting a friend I used to work with in Florida. I had a BLAST, walked my legs off and met Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. Sadly, it was the week before the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, so I didn't get a chance to go to a taping of "The Daily Show." I desperately needed more time there, though. So much more to see and do that I didn't get to. But I did see/do/visit the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero, firefighter and police department museums (FDNY had a better 9/11 memorial), Central Park, American Museum of Natural History (had a nifty Race to the South Pole exhibit), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (which was so big my head was spinning by the end -- there's no way to see that in one whole day), and a whole lot of just wandering.

5. I love the Tuca Tuca massage bars and solid perfumes from Lush. I think I'd like to marinate in it. Forever.

6. How the hell did it get to be almost Thanksgiving? (Oh, yeah, I've been swamped with working three jobs and clinicals and studying and classes and....)

7. Does anyone have a Barnes & Noble nook? I have one, love it, and would like to try an experiment, if anyone else has one.

8. I was watching "The Event" but finally gave up on it. Just didn't care any longer.

9. Yay "Burn Notice" tomorrow!

10. I'm sure there was a lot more important stuff, but that's all my fried brain can handle at the moment. Seriously, clinicals are kicking my ass this week!

1. Walked for an hour.
2. Cooked fresh green beans.
3. Made fresh blackberry cobbler.
4. Died and went to heaven immediately after completing #3.
5. Finished reading a book (about The Body Farm -- cool!).
6. Bellydance class.
7. Turned the heels on a pair of socks.
8. Returned a load of books to the library.

I doubt I'll be nearly as productive tomorrow. Tomorrow I need to go to the pool to get some color on my white self before the beach in a week.

Supernatural finale
True Blood - Eric
wenchamok
I know I'm more than a week late, but I have to give some props to the Supernatural writers and researchers for some details that seemed kinda throwaway but are SO FUCKIN' COOL!

Firstly, Chuck's voiceover mentions them catching a Jayhawks game every now and then. Lawrence, Kansas, is the home of the University of Kansas, home of the Jayhawks. Where football is generally an intramural sport but where basketball is a way of life. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, coached at Kansas. Along with a number of other legendary coaches. We have 5 national championships, 3 NCAA and 2 from before the NCAA existed. Allen Fieldhouse has sold out for 147 straight games. It's not a sport, it's a religion. Rock Chalk, Jayhawk.

Secondly, Stull exists. It is a small town west of Lawrence maybe 10 miles. The rumor/urban legend about Stull Cemetery is that at midnight on Halloween, Lucifer himself shows up as the cemetery is purported to be a gateway to hell. Local law enforcement really cracks down on sightseers, so who knows how true it is. Or if it's just the fabrication of a bunch of drunk frat boys. But it sure makes for a perfect place for Lucifer and Michael to meet to begin the Apocalypse.

Some yay

I finally started my second job. It's still not full time, but it will be full time for a little while. I got hired on at another hospital in town to do CT every other weekend. As I don't know how to do CT, they're training me. So yay, I get paid for training I would have just cobbled together here and there. So I've got probably 2 months of MONEY ahead of me, and it's interesting so far. I just have a helluva lot to learn. (And learning this will make me more desirable to employers. I hope.)

And as an aside, can I have Tory Belleci? Om nom nom...

I had a bitch of a weekend, how was yours?
True Blood - Eric
wenchamok
This weekend just about killed me.

Firstly, I've been sick since last Wednesday. A cold, I think. Just general hacking/coughing/sneezing/CAN'T BREATH! stuff. But it has made me just all around exhausted.

Secondly, the hospital exploded. Well, not literally, but we were slammed all day Saturday. On the run from the time I got there until 11:30 or so. A brief respite, long enough to eat lunch, then on the go the rest of the day. The other tech working with me said it stayed pretty busy all the way until 9:30 that night. The upside to the day is that I've pretty much learned how to do a head CT without contrast.

Thirdly, Sunday at the hospital was worse. Not busy like it had been Saturday. Oh no. Much worse. A doc wanted an enema done on a patient. We don't normally do them on weekends, but by the gods, it needed doing. *sigh* I'm not sure what the point of it was. The patient couldn't move into all the positions we needed, was already in pain from a recent surgery, and moaned/screamed at us the entire time. And of course the ER needed something done RIGHT NOW just as we were getting ready to get started on the enema (like the patient is on the table ready for us). Grrrsnarl.

Fourthly, I had to leave the hospital early because we had an extended inservice at the pool to recertify all the lifeguards. I ended up having to be an instructor and check off the guards on some skills, which actually was a blessing. I'm not sure I would have had the energy to do all the skills myself. The downside of that is that I have to check off on them myself this coming Sunday.

I came home last night and collapse in front of USA vs. Canada hockey (OHMYGODSTHATWASAFREAKIN'AWESOMEGAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!1!!) and fell asleep by 9:30. Today's been a long day (now my knee hurts, damn it), but I have a margarita planned for when I get home in an hour because it's National Margarita Day. Nothing going tomorrow, so there's lots of rest for me and watching "The Bachelor: The Women Tell All." Because I've been sucked into that cultural abyss this winter. Yikes!

1. I <3 Hulu. I've been watching "Young Hercules" on there. *sniffle* I miss my leather-clad Studmuffin of War. And Ryan Gosling is some deliciously blond jailbait.

2. That was after I got addicted to "Glee." OK, someone point me toward some Gleefic. And icons might become necessary in very short order.

3. Am I the only one who really doesn't give a shit about "Avatar"? Yeah, I thought so. Just no interest at all in seeing it.

4. I've been at work for nearly 5 hours and all I've done is paperwork and restocking the linens. I suppose that's one upside to working third shift (the other being the aforementioned Hulu on my laptop and finishing a minor knitting project).

5. When does the new season of "Lost" start? I've got last season Netflixed because it fucked with my head so bad I really need a complete rewatch of it. While paying very close attention. 'Cause once they started really bouncing back and forth in time, I got seriously...uh...lost.

6. And a blessed Solstice to everyone!

OK, it's almost a month into the fall TV season. Who's watching what and what got dumped? I've tried a couple of the new shows. *LOVE* "Trauma" (I am the captain of the Rabbit/Nancy ship, I think...). *LOVE* "Flash Forward." Watched two eps of "Vampire Diaries" and it's outta here. "Mercy" sometimes gets watched because I've caught up on everything else by then and I want to watch something and it's the only thing on. And I think that's all of the new shows I've been interested in. I might catch the first couple eps of "V." We'll see. My other new favorite is "Surviving Disaster" on Spike. I am totally in love with that guy. When the Apocalypse comes, I want him around to lead me to safety! And I'm looking forward to "The Jeff Dunham Show."

Still watching "Heroes," "House," "Dirty Jobs," "Mythbusters," "Ghost Hunters" (can't wait for the Steve and Tango show!), "CSI: NY," "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," "Bones" and "Supernatural." "Numbers" and "Desperate Housewives" have become Well-I'll-try-to-catch-it-but-won't-be-heartbroken-if-I-miss-it. And I'm not sure if I'm gonna watch "Nip/Tuck." I guess I need to watch the first ep, but the past few seasons have been *so* over the top.

So whatcha watchin'?

Oy, been awhile since I posted. I'm about 7 weeks from being done with x-ray school (HOOORRRAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! AND OH HOLY CRAP THAT MEANS I TAKE THE REGISTRY IN ABOUT 8 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I technically graduated at the beginning of May, walked and everything in the ceremony, but I'm not done until clinicals are over with. And it's been pretty much a test a week since then, so I've been a wee bit busy.

But I finally got to see "Star Trek" today. These shouldn't be spoilers....

1. *Snork* I'm not even a Trekkie and I caught all the cliched lines.
2. I heard there was an R2D2 somewhere as a joke. I apparently missed it.
3. And I missed Greg Gruneberg. Damnit.
4. Bones? Delicious. My Karl Urban lust just went through the roof.
5. On the whole -- awesome.

Dear Hollywood,

OK, you did good with the first "Transformers" and the previews of the second look purty good too. But plz to not fuk up "G.I. Joe." Kthxbye!

Between the previews for both of those movies, I was squeeing like a 12-year-old. Maybe because that's about how old I was when those cartoons were on.

Anyone know when "Watchmen" hits DVD?

Snow day!!

I don't know about y'all but I had a lovely snow day yesterday! First off, I got sent home from clinical about 2 p.m. on Friday because the weather was getting bad. So that was nice -- I got home before all the idiots hit the road at rush hour. My sister came over to watch the KU game later that night, so we had family dinner and played games. Then we had a big breakfast Saturday and played games all day and napped and just had a lovely stay-inside-and-watch-it-snow day. 'Cause WSU was shut down so no swim lessons, no lifeguarding. That was especially nice considering I have the plague a chest cold. I'm still waiting to hear if today's another snow day or if the pool's open and I have to go to work. I need the money, but I'm so not in the mood to work.

In other news, I finished my first pair of socks! *happy dance*

How was everyone's holidays? My "big" gifts were a new coat and an electric blanket for my bed (yay! I'm warm!!!). Doctors' opinions of the bail out package
True Blood - Eric

The Allergists voted to scratch it, and the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve, and the Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.

The Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

The Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, the Radiologists could see right through it, and the Surgeons cried "Cut it out! Right away!"

The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists felt the scheme wouldn't hold water.

The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists left the decision up to some butts in Washington, which is the reason for our troubles today.

I just *LOVE* driving in the snow....

….This just in:

BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II, US Ranked 4th

After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.

"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia, however considering their entire body of work...including an incredibly tough strength of schedule...our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."

Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories, Japan and Germany. The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests, they consider each contest to be only a single, equally weighted event."

German Chancellor Adolph Hitler said "Yes, we lost to the US, but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany's ranking. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."

The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented, "France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."

Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

I have an objection to France being ranked #2. Pre-season ranking did not mean a *&^% until they had beaten a quality opponent and they did not. The computer had a little bit of bias there!!! Italy should be ranked #3 because they beat more opponents than the US.

Japan should be ranked #2 considering they beat Korea, China, Indochina (Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia) convincingly. They wiped through the Pacific like a powerful typhoon. They also crippled the American starting line up in the Pacific (remember Pearl Harbor on Dec 07, 1941 and Midway later?) early in the first quarter, but failed to estimate the depth of the American's might. These victories could be equated to triple-digit scores per game, way more than Oklahoma scoring this year. Why they are not ranked higher? Perhaps, the media was paying too much attention to the European arena than the Pacifics and feeding the computers with bias information.

I think Germany and Japan should be ranked 1 & 2 and played in the championship game. Winner would crown as "pinhead of them all". Of course, it is my opinion and I welcome any debate if necessary.

The second year of x-ray school is going well. Exhausting, but well. I've been seeing a lot of cool exams and becoming competent on quite a few as well. I'm loving it, but I'm just a little tired when I get home. But the homework load is a little lighter this year, so I'm actually getting to read for pleasure, which I like.

Lifeguarding is also keeping me busy. I work two nights a week at the pool, and starting today I have every Saturday afternoon, plus swim lessons on Saturday morning, plus a swim team practice (though they skipped today, whoohoo).

I really wish I had a frickin' DVR. Too many TV shows, not enough time!!! I kinda like Fringe, Eleventh Hour's first hour was pretty awesome, um what other new shows am I watching....?

True Blood - Eric

Oh, what's new....hmmm.....

I'm ever closer to being done with school. Spring semester wrapped up in early May. I got a B in one class and A's in the rest, so yay! I spent the rest of May lifeguarding, scrapbooking, camping at Heartland and taking a water safety instructor class.

Summer semester started up June 2. I only have one class, but the accelerated pace is a real bitch. I'm in class 8:30-11ish four days a week. And frantically scribbling notes the entire time. Blargh. My hand is threatening to remove itself from my arm and head for Mexico. Our first test is Wednesday, then another test the week after 4th of July (I think), then the final is July 18 and we're done. We have so, *SO* much to cover between now and then. Yikes. I've also almost finished my observation hours for the summer. I have one more afternoon to do, and I'll get it done this week.

The good news is that I got my first choice for clinical sites. There were seven sites to choose from. There were two I really wanted, two that would have been OK, and the rest would have involved moving because driving two hours each way every day is just out of the question. Happily, I'm at Newton Medical Center and Wichita Clinic Bethel (also in Newton), which is a half-hour drive each way from my house. Woot!

Clinicals start full time Aug. 18. It's a little less than two months away, but it's gonna fly by. In addition to class four days a week, I work 3-4 days a week as head lifeguard at a country club here in town, and I work Saturdays and Sundays lifeguarding at the Heskett Center (my year-round lifeguard job). So that sucks up lots of time. And we've got a trip to Florida the first week of August (YAY!!!). And I'm gonna learn how to scuba dive. A shop in town gives scuba lessons and uses the Heskett Center for practicing the skills. The instructors are very appreciative of the lifeguards, so they'll teach us super cheap. Like I paid $40 for my textbooks. And that's all for the class portion. No gear needed, the instructor shall provide. I will have to pay for my final certification dives, but that's still a good deal. I think just the class portion itself costs $200 or more. And I might be able to do my final dives while I'm in Florida, which would be AWESOME!!!

So what's new with y'all?

My Friday sucked, how was yours?

I got let go at my job on Friday afternoon. Not laid off, "let go." For taking a break. No, really. It was an aircraft manufacturing plant, and the manufacturing floor has very specific times for breaks and lunches. But up in my department, scheduling and contracts, we can take our breaks at any time. Or so all three of my supervisors have told me in the past. Yet while I was taking my 10-minute break and looking over notecards studying for a test, the CEO decided I was goofing off and not doing my job, and he told my supervisor to let me go. And even after my supervisor told him I was on break, the CEO didn't change his mind. So I'm outta there.

I was upset about it, mostly because I didn't think it was fair. But it actually is kind of a good thing. I have 8 tests in the next 3 weeks. Now I have plenty of studying time. And I was kind of planning on leaving at the end of May anyway. My wrists and hands have been hurting like hell from all the computer work there. So it's a good thing, but I'm still pissed at the CEO and that nepotic place. Good riddance.
